Sfx

This is a M4L MIDI generator device.
It is an attempt to generate “sound effects” in MIDI form (bleeps, ringing tones, bursts of noise, abstract signals).

It does so by generating a set of evolving envelopes that control every aspect of the sequence: pitch, velocity, timing, modulation, polyphony, etc.
Each envelope can be edited visually or randomized, and the MIDI notes are derived by evaluating these envelopes over time.

Because the device outputs only MIDI, the actual sound depends entirely on which synth or instrument we use it with.

Sequence length – Total sequence duration
Max nb of notes – Maximum notes generated
Min spacing – Minimum time between notes
Max spacing – Maximum time between notes
Max polyphony – Maximum simultaneous voices
Max poly space – Max interval spread between voices
Min pitch – Lowest MIDI pitch
Max pitch – Highest MIDI pitch
Pitch range mode – How out-of-range pitches are handled (warp / clamp / crop)
Max delays – Maximum number of delay echoes
Max delay time – Maximum gap between delays
Mod max speed – Maximum modulation speed, scaled to sequence length
Max pitch mod – Maximum pitch modulation depth
Mutate strength – Degree of variation when mutating envelopes
Seed – Random seed for repeatable sequences (-1 for fully random)

Modulation Envelopes

Pitch – Base pitch over time
FM frequency – Pitch modulation rate (LFO)
FM amplitude – Pitch modulation depth
FM shape – Morphs between square, sine, and inverted square LFO
Delay fb – Number of delay echoes
Delay time – Time gap between echoes
Delay velo – Velocity curve across echoes
Spacing – Time between generated notes
Duration – Note duration relative to spacing
Velocity – Base note velocity
Velo mod fr – Velocity modulation rate
Velo mod amp – Velocity modulation depth
Velo mod sh – Velocity modulation waveform shape
Polyphony – Number of simultaneous notes per step
Poly space – Pitch interval between voices
Poly shape – Distribution shape of chord voices (skewed up/down)
Poly shift – Time offset between voices
Configuration – 12-bit pitch class mask (used to forbid or allow notes)
